    Tin Barn is the fruit of five friends' passion for the grape. Our wines are crafted from vineyards specifically chosen for their unique soils and optimal growing locations. Tin Barn Vineyards is a collaborative effort of winemaker Michael Lancaster and his four partners, Kurt Chapman, Gray Fowler, Bud Johnson and Carl Stewart, whose dream to make wine came together in the "Tin Barn"!
    Winemaker Michael Lancaster
    Mike Lancaster grew up in Toronto, Canada and worked for Nabisco Brands Corporation as a financial analyst. He took a year off, biked through the wine regions of Italy, Germany, and France, then had an epiphany: he no longer wanted to wear a suit and tie. Wine was his destiny.
    Mike packed his belongings and drove to the Napa Valley in 1993. He attended the University of California at Davis’ graduate enology program as a visiting scholar, and worked for Gloria Ferrer Champagne Caves. In 1995, Mike moved to Quail Ridge Cellars to assist winemaker Anthony Bell, and in 1997 was promoted to winemaker.
    Mike and his two friends, Gray and Carl, started Tin Barn Vineyards in 2000 with the goal of producing some of California's best Syrah, Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. In 2006 friends Kurt Chapman and Bud Johnson joined the partnership.

  • Our Sauvignon Blanc grapes are grown by Maria and Peter Young at their Dry Stack Vineyard in the Bennett Valley sub-appellation of Sonoma County. The vineyard is planted to the Rauscedo Clone 3 Sauvignon Blanc, an Italian clone that produces a very fragrant bouquet. We barrel ferment a small portion of the wine (30% in 2006) to add some mouth feel and texture to the wine. The balance is tank fermented cold to preserve its’ vibrant melon and citrus aromas.
